BEFORE That Hysterectomy for Uterine Fibroids, Find a Homeopath!

Woman suffering from abdomen pain in bed

Millions, yes, I mean millions, of women have undergone unnecessary hysterectomies. I say this, with conviction, having been a homeopath helping women for over thirty years. I’ve said it before, and I say it again now, “If you are 40 years old or more and you are being told that you need a hysterectomy because of fibroids, think again! Do your homework? And read this blog and my book, Whole Woman Homeopathy!

Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that are fed by excess estrogen. Ever heard of phytoestrogens in the environment? If not, check it out. We are not talking about cancer of the uterus or ovaries, which is another matter entirely. We are talking about heavy uterine bleeding, severe cramps, and excessively frequent periods.

The fibroid(s) show up on ultrasound, and may be large enough for you to feel or see. Or they may press on the bladder and cause frequent peeing.

I say women over 40, because, if that is you, your estrogen levels will fall with menopause and the fibroid(s) will nearly always shrink. That is not to say you shouldn’t seek out an experienced homeopath specializing in women’s health care if you are younger and diagnosed with fibroids. My experience, with rare exceptions, is that, with skilled homeopathic care, your discomfort will be relieved and you can avoid a hysterectomy. You will likely still have your fibroid, but it will not cause you problems and will shrink after menopause.

I helped Erin. Read on and listen up! This could be you.

Erin, a vivacious, forty-year old in blue jeans, came to me quite a few years ago. Diagnosed a year earlier with a fibroid tumor, naturopathic care and acupuncture hadn’t helped. In fact she felt weaker. Erin’s gynecologist recommended an immediate hysterectomy. Intimidated and confused, Erin agreed initially to the surgery, then walked out of the hospital against medical advice fifteen minutes before the procedure! By this time, one month before Erin first came to see me, the fibroid was the size of a ten-week-old fetus! The diagnosis had shocked her. “My periods were every  twenty-eight days to the day. I know exactly how they’ll behave. I do not want surgery and I am not big on drugs. I do pee a lot, but I figure it’s because of all the herb tea I drink. Four days before my last period, I woke up in gut-wrenching, cramping pain. It hurt so much that I couldn’t stand up straight. I ended up in the ER, but was fine the next day.

Erin’s husband called her ‘Ms. Stress Case.’ She became easily upset, which had led to an ulcer and spastic colon when she was younger and, lifelong, to constipation. She self-medicated with Metamucil. Erin described herself as high-strung with “zero patience.” A high performer, her plate was always more than full, and she could do more, better, than anyone else. “My style is to work twelve-hour days at a fast pace. I hit the ground running and go all day.” Erin’ temper ran hot and she had a history of drinking too much. She lost her sister to breast cancer at thirty-five.

Erin’s homeopathic remedy was clear: Nux vomica (Quaker’s button). I continued to treat her for eight years. Despite tremendous financial and marital stress, and several moves across the country and back, her fibroid did not grow, and the homeopathic remedy took care of her gynecologic symptoms, as well as balancing her out emotionally. I prescribed regular doses of the Nux vomica. At one point, three and a half years after she first came to see me, she asked her gyn to write a letter to her employer requesting that her level of work stress be decreased. The doctor refused, insisting that there was no relationship between stress and fibroids! I wrote the letter myself. As of eight years later, Erin never needed that hysterectomy, much less immediately, as that gynecologist insisted! And she felt much happier, healthier, and less stressed overall.

If you or someone you know is struggling with fibroids, try homeopathy first! You will VERY likely avoid losing your uterus!
